Anxiety and Depression

297921926Moving Forward in Life is not Easy.

You know you have not prioritized yourself for a long time. Work, family, children, friends, bills, chores, responsibilities, and obligations come before you. Your needs are near the bottom of the list.

Ironically, after you work so hard and give so much, you still don’t feel contented or good about yourself. Instead, you are still feeling depressed or anxious about not being good enough.

Life feels like a meaningless repetition, and stress continues to keep you up at night. Sometimes, you think about the meaning of life or wonder if your lifestyle is sustainable, but changing it makes you feel even more anxious. All the changes you know you need to make are challenging, and it also takes courage.

Day after day, you repeat what’s familiar but not working for you, just to get through another day. But you cannot always numb yourself from the emptiness inside. Confusion about what we feel or why we feel a particular way in response to events can lead to an excess of depression, anxiety, and fear. The lack of coping skills exacerbates the emotional turmoil. Compartmentalizing helps only temporarily.

Therapy can help you change your perception of yourself; your perception of the past, present, and future; and fundamentally change your relationship with yourself and others.

Evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), integrated with attachment theory and interpersonal and psychodynamic theory, are effective for people with depression and anxiety.

Not only do they help you develop insight into your issues, but they also provide a framework to change the way you think about things and equip you with the coping skills you need to manage depression and anxiety.

Working together, we will clarify your feelings and explain why and how you think the way you do about yourself. You will begin to feel less afraid of uncertainty and more trusting of your emotions as guideposts to your behavior in the future. Most importantly, you will learn how to self-regulate and continue to function even though you can’t always make your distressing feelings disappear.
